Even though residents of Kinlock may never see the new detention pond the Westmoreland Conservation District helped to create a few miles away, they definitely will notice the big, positive difference it makes in their quality of life.
It will reduce flooding – a problem that has plagued this small community near Lower Burrell for some 50 years.
That benefit will be especially obvious if we have a rainy spring, the first major test of the pond since was installed last year.
Reducing flooding is just one of the valuable contributions that conservation districts make to our communities.
