June, a Saturday, date TBA.

Forester Mike DiRinaldo will lead a field trip to Forbes State Forest to see the effects of the controlled burns and other management techniques on sites we looked at last summer.

Other programs your Westmoreland Woodlands Improvement Association board members are working on for the future:

  • PGC biologist Tammy Colt on creating habitat for woodcock and golden-winged warblers.
  • Dana Rizzo, WCD’s water quality specialist, discussing the recently completed study on Marcellus effects on well water.
  • A training session for citizen water monitors.
  • A chainsaw safety PowerPoint and hands-on demonstration.
  • A field day in the woods for kids and their families.

As always, we welcome your suggestions for program topics.

Become a member of the Westmoreland Woodlands Improvement Association (WWIA)

Remember, WWIA dues for 2012 are still only $10. Paid-up members get into most programs for free; most cost $5 for nonmembers. So your investment will pay for itself quickly, and you’ll be helping to support an organization that exists to help you care for your woodlands. Please make your check out to WWIA and send it to Tony Quadro at the Westmoreland Conservation District, 218 Donohoe Rd., Greensburg, PA 15601.
